As part of the UK’s commitment to a sustainable future, the government is encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by providing financial support for the installation of EV chargepoints. This guide outlines the two primary grants available to assist with these installations: one for landlords and another for renters and flat owners.
1. EV Chargepoint and Infrastructure Grants for Landlords
Landlords play a crucial role in supporting the transition to electric vehicles by providing necessary charging infrastructure at their properties. The UK government offers two grants to help landlords with these installations:
EV Chargepoint Grant
The EV Chargepoint Grant is designed to make it more affordable for landlords to install individual EV chargepoint sockets at their properties.
- Funding Amount: This grant covers 75% of the cost to purchase and install a chargepoint socket, up to a maximum of £350 per socket.
- Annual Limit: Landlords can receive up to 200 grants per year for residential properties and an additional 100 grants for commercial properties.
This grant is an excellent opportunity for landlords to add value to their properties while supporting their tenants’ shift to electric vehicles.
EV Infrastructure Grant
For landlords looking to future-proof their properties or install multiple EV chargepoints, the EV Infrastructure Grant provides broader support for the necessary building and installation work.
- Funding Amount: The grant covers 75% of the total costs, up to a maximum of £30,000. The grant amount depends on the number of parking spaces involved:
- Per Chargepoint Socket: Up to £350 for each socket installed.
- Per Parking Space: Up to £500 for each parking space equipped with the required supporting infrastructure.
- Annual Limit: Landlords can receive up to 30 grants per financial year for installing infrastructure in residential car parks.
Important Note: This grant is specifically for residential properties. Commercial landlords are not eligible for the EV Infrastructure Grant.

2. EV Chargepoint Grant for Renters and Flat Owners
Renters and flat owners can also benefit from government support to install EV chargepoints at their homes, making it easier to charge their vehicles.
EV Chargepoint Grant
This grant is tailored to help reduce the cost of installing a chargepoint socket at properties where the applicants either rent or own a flat.
- Funding Amount: The grant covers 75% of the cost to purchase and install a chargepoint socket, up to a maximum of £350.
- Eligibility: You are eligible for this grant if:
- You own and live in a flat.
- You rent any residential property, including those under the shared ownership scheme.
- Requirements: To qualify, you must own an eligible electric vehicle and have a private off-street parking space at your home.
This grant ensures that even those living in rented properties or flats can access affordable EV charging solutions, supporting the broader transition to electric vehicles across the UK.
