The Department for Transport has just released data showing in the last year, the number of public EV charging devices has risen by 33% up to 7,500 devices. Rapid devices (25 kW+) saw a similar level of growth rising by 29% with 1,235 devices.

Growth Distribution

The uneven geographical distribution of devices in the UK continues with London (111) being far over the UK average of 45 EV chargers per 100,000 of the population. They argue that this is mainly market lead and local authorities have the chance to bid for funding now through the new OZEV scheme. Yorkshire and the Humber came fourth bottom with just 27 per 100,000, indicating an opportunity for rapid growth over the next few years.

Future Growth

We are likely to see these growth figures increase even more over the next few years as the government recently announced plans to reach 300,000 public EV chargers by 2030. A £1.6bn fund will power this by allowing access to people who previously weren’t eligible for the old scheme.
